black friday is the antithesis of me as a person. a bunch of people skipping out on time well spent with family and friends to wait in long lines and fight over things they don’t need in the first place. it is, unfortunately, the american way. so i decided to take my family as far away from the mayhem as possible. since we couldn’t fly to the moon, we drove out to lost lake in the mt hood national wilderness instead. we had the entire lake and surrounding area to ourselves with the exception of some wildlife. it was so quiet. all you could hear was the wind blowing thru the old growth fir trees and the crunching of ice and snow beneath our boots. temperature and visibility were great despite the cloud cover. we did a great hike and gained some serious elevation, but the short length of daylight forced us to turn around before reaching our destination. that means i’m going back!
on the way back to portland we stopped in hood river for some well deserved pizza and beer.
time well spent.
