Few snaps from a dip in the Pacific this past weekend. I had every intention of surfing but it’s funny how your plans don’t mean a damn thing to the ocean. We checked the waves in the morning both days, but the thought of paddling out was honestly terrifying. With a SW swell the beach and cape combination make for really rough/sloppy conditions with a powerful invisible undertow right out to sea. So I prepped my housing and went out in my wetsuit until I was about chest deep. At one point I felt the undertow grab me as I watched the shore get farther and farther away. I went from calm to panicked in about .0001 seconds. I leaned and pushed against it as hard as I could trying to move even an inch toward the beach. For about 3 minutes the ocean and I were at a stalemate. Eventually I made my way back to ankle deep water and didn’t wander much deeper after that. I took that as a small reminder from God that I am not in charge. The ocean is so powerful and beautiful… it just blows my mind.
