Jefferson Park - A little different than what we had pictured, I think. We expected snow, but not the amounts we saw. Saturday morning we were on the road early giving ourselves plenty of time to make it to the park in the early afternoon, hoping to just hang around by the lakes and stare at the mountain - relaxing. Instead we lost the trail very early on due to massive amounts of snow covering everything, went miles out of our way, struggled to find a reliable direction, and baked in the hot sun as we snowshoed the scenic route to our campsite. It ended up taking us over 8 hours to get into the park. Our spot was really nice though. Coffee, jerky, jetboil dinners and whiskey. We sat around in our tent for a few hours talking, playing cards and getting drunk before going to sleep. In the morning we boiled snow for water, packed up and started up Park Butte to get a bering. Jeff and Eric did all the planning while I took pictures of everything. Hours later, with a good amount of luck, we ran into our own tracks. With a huge weight lifted off of our shoulders (metaphoric, because we were still carrying bulging 50L packs) we followed our former selves back to the trailhead and into Detroit for burgers and beers from a shitty little restaurant.
Highlight of the trip: On our way to the trailhead we saw a black bear. We probably should’ve just gone home then!
